Our estate

our family

When you grow up in such beautiful cellars, you inevitably become a winegrower.

Jean-François FAUQUE welcomes you to his family vineyard estate to share with you his passion for wine and his occupation as a winegrower.

With his brother Philippe and today his son Jean, Jean-François, who graduated from the Institut de Bordeaux with an oenology diploma, maintains the traditions transmitted by his parents Evelyne and Jean-Claude and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Today, the family harmoniously shares the work load between working the land, winemaking and marketing. They develop the best wines at the estate with a concern for quality in constant evolution.

the estate

The name of the estate is inspired by the Patron Saint of the village. The estate is located in the heart of the southern Côtes du Rhône, very close to the vineyards of Vacqueyras (5km), Gigondas (5km), Chateauneuf-du-Pape (15km) and even Beaumes-de-Venise (10km). You will find that the village of Violès is only a short distance away from the Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail.

If you make a stop at the estate, it is with pleasure that we will invite you to discover our working methods and taste all of our wines. You will find a warm welcome, quality products and advice to make the most of it.

In the cellar, we will welcome you in a family-like, friendly and calm atmosphere for ideal tasting conditions.

the vines

The Vines contribute to the beauty of our landscapes.

We have the privilege to own an ancestral vineyard with rich and varied soils which benefit from the radiant sunshine of the South of France.

We currently own 51 hectares distributed as follows :

4.5 hectares in AOC Vacqueyras
4.5 hectares in
  AOC Plan de Dieu
2 hectares in AOC Côtes du Rhône
Villages
25 hectares in AOC Côtes du Rhône
15 hectares of local wine

One quarter of the vineyard is composed of very old vines. These old vines are always very well maintained, and they provide the structure for the long-keepign wines.

The red grape varieties represent 90% of the vineyard; the white grape varieties we use are typical of the south of the Rhône Valley (Grenache, Clairette, Roussanne and Marsanne)

The grape varieties contribute, in the same way as the terroir, to the typicity of the wines from the Côtes du Rhône. The vine population supported by the appellation offers an important range of grape varieties thus giving us many assets to develop our wines.

In our vineyard, you can find mainly Grenache grapes which brings richness, color and roundness. It makes supple and round wines with aromas of red and black fruits, pepper, fig and tobacco. This grape variety thrives in arid climates and its upright bearing enables it to resist the wind, which is very present in our region. In the past, we used to like wines with high alcohol degrees that could reach 17 °. Today, the Grenache variety is often blended with Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan which curb its characteristics.

The Syrah, thriving on poor-quality soils and hot climates is easy to work with. With low yield, on suitable and privileged soils like ours, it gives aromas of licorice, musk, truffle, blackcurrant and various spices ... The constant sun seems to exalt its alcoholic level and makes for powerful wines with an intense nose which will age very well.

The Mourvèdre, for its part, has a bright future with winegrowers concerned with originality and authenticity. Thanks to the warmth of our region, this underestimated grape variety has a strong personality, and gives rustic wines for long-keeping, with notes of violet, olive, or burnt jam.

Finally, the Carignan brings in its notes of red and black fruits (blackberry, prune, cherry, raspberry) as well as leather and scents of garrigue.

As for the white grape varieties, the Grenache Blanc has the same qualities as the red grapes and provides the long finish in our wines.

The Roussanne and Marsanne, planted in equal proportions, bring in complexity and strength making for dry, light, elegant wines suitable for aging, with particularly developed floral aromas.

Finally, the Clairette yields characteristic aromas of peach blossom, grapefruit, dried fruits, lime and broom.
